THEME: THE IMPACT OF ENTERTAINMENT ON YOUTH AND GIRL CHILD IN THE SOCIETY.
Entertainment is a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience, or gives pleasure and delight
Therefore, the *Second Kaduna International Film Festival* is nothing short of an entertainment galore, as it promises to be five days of fun-filled with an exposition of talent, innovations, creativity, promotions and interactions with key players in the entertainment industry and all movie enthusiasts.
The Nigerian film industry known as nollywood, is a key contributor to the increase identified by the state statistics agency. The film industry accounted for more than 1.4% of GDP – or $7.2bn of Nigeria’s economy, Kannywood as a popular name known for the Hausa industry in the north will also be able to reach the globe through the kaduna international film festival.
Movie often relate to current social problems, political scenarios, friendships and almost every aspect of our lives. So, for a mature mind, movie can be a reflections of the unknown alleys of the society, it’s people, customs, life e.t.c.
For example, a recent movie called *DRY* is a mirror to how a girl child in some cases are given out in marriage prematurely and ends up with an *IVF* during child birth.
Today, you will agree with me that through movies, messages can reach audiences and target groups in real time and they can generate changes and tendencies. As such, the positive impact of entertainment on youths, includes helping them turn away from drugs, smoking and any kind of drinking spree. Youths are so adventurous every now and then but a good movie can be an alternative to keep them astray.
There are few major setbacks hindering the developments of entertainment in the North, and that includes;
*Un-acceptance of entertainment in general.
*Un-courageous attempts from the youths to exhibit their talents because they are scared of been stigmatised as irresponsible as that has been the myth.
*Lack of investors
*Un-enabling environment provided for entertainers to showcase their skills.
*Lack of support from governmental bodies amongst others.
In that regard, Kaduna International Film Festival intends to provides an enabling platform that will facilitate a link between film makers, film lovers, entrepreneurs and youths. The event will inspire, motivate, and help the teeming youth identify their hidden talents and besiege a possible opportunity to build a career in film production. In other parts of the world, entertainment improves the economy, and serves as a major means of revenue while it creates job too. Kaduna Film Festival hopes to bridge that gap as we also intend to work with Hollywood and other foreign bodies.
